Slavery exhibition comes to Larne Museum

LARNE Museum and Arts Centre is hosting an evocative new photographic exhibition inspired by the history of the slave trade.

The touring exhibition by John Bradshaw, entitled Enslaved, consists of a series of black and white photographic images, with particular focus on the Atlantic slave trade.

This is John’s second exhibition at the museum, following his very successful 2009 exhibition, Impressions of Irish History from the earliest times to the present - a photographer’s view.

The event was launched on July 1 by mayor Andy Wilson, and John gave a very informative presentation on the reasons behind the exhibition.

Jenny Caldwell, heritage officer for Larne council said: “Larne Museum and Arts Centre is incredibly privileged to host John’s work and especially this time as he chose Larne for the premiere unveiling of this amazing exhibition.”

Once Enslaved leaves Larne it will start on a two-year tour of museums through Ireland, the UK and America, so residents are being encouraged to take the opportunity to view the exhibition while they have the chance. Enslaved will be on display until the end of August.
