SLIDESHOW: Carrick College sports day

Students from Year 8 through to Year 11 got into the competitive spirit with a range of running, throwing and jumping activities.

In the Year 8 boys’ competition, stand-out participants were Aaron Chism, who won three gold medals; Joel McClinton, who picked up two gold and two silver, and Thomas Wilson, who was awarded one gold and one silver.

In the Year 9 competition, both Andrew Rodgers and Jack Cooper walked away with three gold and two silver medals apiece.

Meanwhile, the outstanding competitor in all age groups this year was Year 10 pupil Ryan Strain, who picked up no less than seven gold medals in a range of events.

Special mention also goes to Scott Gardiner, who finished up with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

In the senior boys’ competitions, Conor Gascoigne completed the sprint double at 100 and 200m, Garth Hartley took gold in the 400 and 800m and picked up an additional gold in discus.

In the other field events, Owen Shearer won the long jump, Matthew Proctor completed a highly competitive triple jump and Daniel Morgan narrowly defeated Curtis Hamilton to pick up gold in the javelin.

The school also congratulated Ryan Jeavon and Andrew Reynolds, who each picked up gold medals in the high jump and shot put.

Top performers among the female pupils were Nicole Crossan and Jordan Lennon, who both won four events each including a sprint double in the 100m and 200m.

Emma Dines had a great day, competing in no less than six events and finishing top three in each.
