This year’s guest of honour was Professor Jayne Woodside, a former Head Girl at the school who now holds a distinguished position as Professor of Human Nutrition in Queen’s University.

During his annual report, Principal Jonathan Wylie outlined some of the major academic successes for the school and paid tribute to his pupils.

”We are delighted by the examination success of our pupils and these results emphasise the extent to which all within the Larne Grammar School family ‘fulfil their promise’, in keeping with the school’s motto,” he said.

There was particular delight with the fact that the percentage of pupils achieving three A*-C grades at A Level has gone up for the second year running. The highest achiever in the year group was Kirsty McKinty who was awarded one A*, two As and one B grade.

At AS level, 12 pupils were awarded four A grades, including Jonny Barry, James Brown, Melanie Hamilton, Jocelyn Hill, Rachel Irvine, Katie Kane, Rachel McIlroy, Calum McKay, Eve Pijl, Natasha Rainey, Amy Shepherd and Gary Wolfe.

There was also cause for celebration at GCSE level with almost three quarters of all entries being awarded an A*, A or B grade while over 92 per cent of pupils achieved at least seven A* to C grades. The highest achiever at GCSE was Paul Cameron who was awarded an incredible 10 A* grades in this summer’s examinations.

The final speech came from Head Boy, Calum McKay, and Head Girl, Eve Pijl. During their speech they both paid tribute to the staff who have helped them over the past six years and shared some of their favourite memories.

They went into depth on how they have been given the opportunity to travel, to partake in sports and to develop skills and capabilities outside the classroom during their time at Larne Grammar.
