Slideshow: St Patrick’s College prize-giving

The “journey of improvement continues unabated” at St Patrick’s College and “is testament to the commitment of the staff who work tirelessly to ensure each child is placed on an appropriate pathway and is given every opportunity to reach his or her full potential”, principal Cate Magee has said.

Addressing last week’s packed Prize Day audience, she described pupils’ examination results as “outstanding”.

Those gathered heard that last year saw 79% of students achieve five or more GCSE’s at A*-C, with 50% of students achieving seven or more GCSE’s at A*-C. Twenty three students achieved at least eight GCSE’s at those grades, while another achieved nine and two further students achieved 10.

Five students – Bianka Halasiova, Ceara McErlean, Karolina Urbanek, Mariele de Guzman and Rebecca Morrison achieved full marks in GCSE Art & Design and student Kelsey Kennedy achieved 100% in all aspects of her GCSE Performing Arts course.

In Year 11 nine pupils achieved Grade C or higher in GCSE Science (Single Award) and in the Modern Languages Department, 88% of grades achieved in French, Irish and Polish were at A*-B.

In 14 subjects, there was a pass rate at A*-C of 75% and above, with six of those subjects achieving over 90% and three of them (Art & Design, French, and PE) achieving a 100% pass rate.

At ‘A’ level, six of the courses taken by students achieved a 100% success rate at Grades A*-C and 100% achieved A*-A in Art & Design while 91 per cent of students taking the BTEC Subsidiary Award in Sport gained either a Merit, Distinction or Starred Distinction.

In Year 13, Art & Design students enjoyed an 85% pass rate at Grade A, while in Religious Studies – a new subject for the school at ‘A’ Level – 100% of the grades achieved were at B or above.

“The level of success across all subject areas also looks set to continue,” Mrs Magee said.
