Places are still available for the organised trek, which involves reaching the summit of four Ulster peaks over two consecutive Saturdays. Justine Fleck, Mencap’s area fund raising manager said that trekkers could choose just two peaks if they wanted, Slieve Gallion and Mount Errigal, or all four, which includes Northern Ireland’s two highest peaks - Slieve Donard and Slieve Commedagh in the Mountains of Mourne on Saturday 16 August.

“The challenge isn’t insurmountable and with Slieve Gallion and Mount Errigal not too far away, it’s an exciting way to challenge yourself and build your fitness, or a great team building opportunity that will test endurance. Either way it promises to be a whole lot of craic!

“All money raised by Mencap in Northern Ireland stays here, so by putting on their hiking boots everyone who takes part enables us to continue to support children, young people and adults” she said.

The registration fee is £35 per day (excluding transport) and participants need to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100. Call 9069 1351 or email [email protected]
