Slight drop in Lisburn jobless total

THERE was another slight fall in the level of unemployment in Lisburn last month.

New figures, released by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, have shown that in June there was a reduction of 0.7% in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Lisburn.

Unemployment in the city is still up compared to the same month last year, with 211 more people claiming benefit than June 2009.

Currently there are 2,941 people in Lisburn claiming unemployment benefit, a figure which represents 4.2% of the city's working age population.

In Northern Ireland as a whole unemployment has continued to rise, albeit it a slower rate, with 55,335 people claiming unemployment benefit. This figure is up by 0.4% over the month and by 12.6% since last year.
