Slight fall in Lisburn jobless figures

THE number of people registering as out of work fell slightly in Lisburn in December.

According to statistics released by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, the number of people unemployed fell by 0.7% during the month.

Over the last year unemployment in Lisburn has gone up by almost 4%. In December a total of 3,205 people claimed unemployment benefit in the city, 22 less than the previous month.

In Northern Ireland as a whole there are 59,113 people claiming unemployment benefit, just over 5% of the working age population.
