Slimline Thomas weighs up for award

A Larne man who lost an incredible 17-and-a-half stone has earned a national award for his inspirational slimming story.

Thomas McIntyre (43) was honoured as Slimming World’s Man of the Year 2013 - collecting his award at The Ritz in London.

Thomas - who once suffered the embarrassment of getting stuck in a football ground turnstile - reduced his weight from 31st to 13st 6lb and a clothing size 8XL to a medium after being encouraged to join Slimming World.

“I was the typical jolly fat bloke, always making fun of myself before anyone else had the chance to do it,” said Thomas, a fresh food manager in Dunnes.

“Deep down though, I’d reached the point where I thought about my mortality all the time and the more I worried the more I ate, to comfort myself I suppose. It was a vicious cycle,” he said.
