Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson MP and Alderman Jonathan Craig MLA attended the event along with TV and Radio Presenter and Producer John Daly, Patron of Action MS.

John Daly, praised the members for taking part.

“Slimming World and Action MS are each committed to transforming people’s lives in their different ways,” he said.

“Through this Magic Wander in support of Action MS, Slimming World members and leaders have helped to change the lives of people living with the challenges of multiple sclerosis, here in the greater Lisburn area and right across Northern Ireland.”

Ann Walker, Chief Executive of Action MS said: “I would like to thank Alderman Leathem for hosting this reception in the Mayor’s Parlour to honour these local Slimming World groups in raising over £4,000 to support our work in the community.

“I was delighted that Jeffrey Donaldson MP and Jonathan Craig MLA could join in the celebration of the outstanding achievement of these Lisburn citizens.”

Ann also thanked Caroline Boyd, the leader of the Slimming World Group meeting at Lisburn Racquets Club.

“I must thank Caroline for her energy and drive to turn a simple idea into a fantastic success,” she said.

“Caroline was the catalyst to gain support from several other Slimming World groups, who all joined in with great enthusiasm.

“She and all those leaders and members who took part should be extremely proud. We simply could not offer any of our services without public support as we receive no government or statutory funding.

“Yet many people living with MS have complex needs and their quality of life depends upon these being met sensitively and professionally.”

Northern Ireland has the second highest incidence of multiple sclerosis in the world. Almost 4,000 people have multiple sclerosis in Northern Ireland.

All proceeds from the Walk will be spent in the community providing practical help and support to people living with MS, their families and carers.
