Slovakian man sentenced for eighth motoring offence

Ballymena District Judge Peter King said it his 'job to protect road users going about their lawful duty from disqualified drivers' as he banned a man from the road for two years.

He also imposed a three months jail term, suspended for two years, on Filip Rac (33), of Glenravel Park, Ballymena, who was detected driving a Mercedes whilst disqualified and without insurance at the town’s Larne Road link on October 13.

Defence barrister Michael Smith said his client, originally from Slovakia, said he did not know he had been disqualified at the time of the offence.

Judge King said it was now the defendant’s eight offence and said a pre-sentence report gave him the impression Rac was not taking the matters very seriously and highlighted a likelihood of re-offending.
