“Over the last number of days I’ve received further reports of speeding through Glenavy as people rush to get to work in the morning and home in the evening,” he said.

“I would urge everyone travelling through the area to make an effort to take it slow and obey all speed limits.

“This is an area with a lot of families and children, if drivers don’t slow down then it’s only a matter of time before someone is injured or killed.

“I have spoken to local PSNI commanders about this issue and have received assurances that they will monitor the situation closely in the coming days and weeks.

“I would therefore encourage anyone who notices speeding in the area to report it to the police.

People continue to die needlessly on our roads every week. It’s incumbent on all of us to take responsibility for our actions and ensure that safety is at the front of our minds at all times.”
