‘Slow down’ plea from self-confessed speeder Storey

He made the plea after he frankly admitted at a Council meeting that he himself has been caught for speeding in the past.

The Ballymoney councillor was speaking at a meeting in Riada House where he told Roads Service officials that unfortunately although road engineering can be put in place to slow down drivers, there are those who don’t take heed.

The DUP representative welcomed work carried out by Roads Service at areas like Balnamore and also at Carrowreagh Primary School.

He said: “Roads don’t kill, it is the speed people travel at. The day I was at Carrowreagh School it was absolutely scandalous the speed some vehicles were going through.”

He said Roads Service could put up flashing lights; install ‘rumble strips’ of “a hundred different colours “but some people in society don’t listen.”

Cllr Storey said they had also fought for a long time to get speed limits at Seacon but again people are still not slowing down.

He said he has asked police to enforce the speed limit at areas like Seacon but people are still speeding.

And he added: “I have been caught myself in the past for speeding.”

But the councillor went on to say that if he had his way the number of penalty points given for offences would be increased as he said one only had to see the damage and misery caused by speeding.

Cllr Storey also welcomed work at areas like the Knock Road, Finvoy Road and Clintyfinnan.

The councillor added: “There is a call going out from this Council for all to pay heed and attention to the issue of speed. We can put signs up and rumble strips in but if people don’t regard it it would be a waste of money and a waste of life. Speed is still a killer on the roads.”
