Smell of cannabis from house made police suspicious

A smell of cannabis coming from a house a Coleraine's Ballycastle Road raised the suspicions of passing police and when they searched two men they found one had 12 Class C tablets.

Andrew Dixon Hill (32), of Bushmills Road, Coleraine, had possession of Alprazolam detected on September 8 and said they were for his own use.

Defence solicitor Sam Barr said when asked about the cannabis, Hill said it was nothing to do with him.

The tablets were in a wallet and Mr Barr said the defendant ordered them online to deal with anxiety.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court, District Judge Liam McNally noted it was Hill’s third conviction for possession of drugs and jailed him for a month.

The court heard the defendant was already in custody on other charges.
