Snip snip! Kirsty’s new look earns £600 for PIPS

Kirsty went under the scissors to have her long hair chopped off in aid of charity - to the cheers and applause of her co-workers and shoppers.

Kirsty said she had long locks since she was three years old, but decided to go for a new look as part of Asda’s charity drive for PIPS, the suicide awareness and prevention charity.

So far her efforts have raised £600, much to the delight of Kim Gault, Asda Larne’s Community Life champion.

She explained that the store is having a variety of different fundraising efforts to help reach the target of £3,000 for PIPS.

“So many people have been touched by suicide in some way. Asda has pledged to raise £50,000 for PIPS across their stores in Northern Ireland.

“Our target is £3,000 and we are more than half-way there already.

Along with Kirsty’s sponsored haircut, the Asda team in Larne are taking part in all kinds of fundraising activities.

Coming up is the Belfast Bap Challenge, during which seven hungry colleagues are being asked to eat a Belfast bap, filled to bursting with a variety of fillings. A timeclock will be on them the whole time, though, to see who can scoff the lot in the quickest time. Other fundraising efforts include a sponsored buggy push, a car boot sale and fancy dress walk. A bungee jump is also being held on September 8 over the River Lagan with customers in the Larne store being invited to sponsor the adventurous participants in their high-flying venture.
