Snooker legend laid to rest in Carnmoney Cemetery

FAMILY and close friends of Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins gathered at Carnmoney Cemetery on Monday afternoon to say farewell to the snooker legend.

The troubled star was laid to rest in the Higgins family grave at Carnmoney East following a funeral service in St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast.

Past and present stars of the game, including John Virgo, Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty and Joe Swail joined mourners at the service to remember his life. Hundreds more people gathered outside the cathedral to pay their respects.

The Dean of Belfast, Houston McKelvey, who led the service, described Higgins as a person of prodigious talent who had struggled to cope with fame and fortune.
