Cookstown man Joe Curry is expected to complete a gruelling 60 miles run on his 60th birthday for charity, today, despite snow and bitter winds.

Joe set off from Magherafelt on Friday night, running to Cookstown, then to Omagh before setting off on the return route to Cookstown.

An update on the Sperrin Harriers Facebook page read: “Joe just hit An Creagan with Sean Donnelly, Bob Davidson, Adrian Rea, Michael McCrory, Eamon Sheehan and Toirleach Gourley in tow.

A bit of snow making the road a bit slippy. Cold head wind. Joe feeling strong and looking good at 23 miles!”

Veteran athlete Joe reckons the run will take 12 hours to complete and he is aiming to raise more than £5,000 for Alzheimer’s Society - a charity he has raised funds for in the past.
