So drunk could not remember accident

A MAN was so drunk he could not remember crashing a car into a field, Craigavon court heard last Thursday.

He was 44-year-old John Hatton, of no fixed abode, and he was banned from driving for a total of four years at the court.

For driving while unfit he was fined 250 and disqualified for four years while a concurrent four year ban and a 50 fine was imposed for dangerous driving on June 6 last year.

He was also fined 50 and banned for 12 months for not having insurance and fined 10 for not having a licence.

The court heard police went to an accident involving one car at the Whitewell Road, Aghagallon. The car was in a field just after a hump back bridge.

Police discovered that the driver had left hospital without receiving treatment. When they talked to him he was unsteady on his feet and he smelled of alcohol. A blood test gave a reading of 308 - the limit is 80.

A solicitor for Hatton said his client had been drinking a considerable amount over a number of weeks and had no recollection of the accident.
