Society of Biology enjoy summer outing to Rathlin

The trip attracted members and their families from all over the Province. The Royal Society of Biology is the

main professional body for biologists and represents a diverse membership of individuals. The outing comprised of a 25 minute boat trip aboard MV Rathlin Express followed by a 3 hour walk around the Roonivoolin region towards the south of the Island under the capable hands of RSPB guide Liam McFall.

The group enjoyed a packed lunch whilst taking in the magnificent views of the north Antrim coast over Park Cove. Liam McFall explained that the RSPB has successfully managed the natural habitat of Rathlin to facilitate the return of the Red-billed Ch ough and the group was lucky enough to see Northern Ireland’s only breeding pair of Choughs along with this year’s fledglings.

A wide range of other fauna and flora were also seen during the trip and included grey seals, harbour seals and greylag geese.
