Sods turned for £500k play park

Alex Duffy, Chairperson of Strathfoyle Community Association, paid tribute to all those who have been working to achieve better play facilities for the area.

“The people of Strathfoyle are excited that work is commencing,” he said.

“We would like to thank Derry City and Strabane District Council for all their hard work and commitment to the people of Strathfoyle.”

Paul Hughes, from Enagh Youth Forum, said: “It’s just brilliant to finally have diggers on site here in Strathfoyle.

“Local people led a very strong community campaign and we are all very excited and looking forward to the opening of the play park later in the summer. A massive well done to all local residents.”

Contractors MP Colman have been contracted to deliver the council project with support from the Department for Communities and RiverRidge Recycling through the Landfill Communities Fund.

The Mayor, Alderman Hilary McClintock, said: “The residents of Strathfoyle, stakeholders and Council have supported this project from its inception in meeting children and young people’s needs so I know they will be delighted to see work commencing,” she said.

“When completed, this play provision will be a beautiful open space for families to come together and children to play and I am looking forward to seeing that finally happen later this year.

“I’d like to congratulate the local community representatives and Council Officers who have worked so hard to move the initiative to this stage and acknowledge the additional funding from the Department for Communities and Landfill Communities Fund without which this project wouldn’t have been possible.”
