Soldier remanded over barracks murder

A soldier has appeared in court charged with murdering Ballymoney corporal, Geoffrey McNeill, who was found dead at an army barracks in Shropshire.

Cpl Geoffrey McNeill was found dead in an accommodation block at Clive Barracks in Tern Hill at about 09:00 GMT on Saturday.

The 32-year-old was of the First Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment.

Lance Cpl Richard Farrell, 23, also of Clive Barracks, appeared before magistrates in Telford.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on 31 March.
