Soldier veterans celebrate Diamond Jubilee with Cadets

THE Royal British Legion has been bringing the Diamond Jubilee to life for Coleraine Cadets (pictured above), as Legion members shared memories of their own lives and military careers with the local teenagers.

The teens were also invited to join in the Royal British Legion’s recent parade in Limavady to mark the anniversary.

Thanking the British Legion for both the invitation and encouragement, Colonel Paul Shepherd, from 1st Battalion Army Cadet Force Northern Ireland, said, “This remarkable anniversary has already captured public support and imagination and we can expect that enthusiasm to roll on as still more Jubilee events roll out during the course of the year.

“Our young Cadets, like almost everyone else, have been swept along with the public mood of celebration but, thanks to local members of the Royal British Legion, these teenagers are also developing an understanding of what it means to dedicate sixty years to public service.

“Sharing personal memories, with stories passed through their families and via fascinating snippets of Regimental history, the RBL veterans have been giving our teenagers a genuine sense of history.”
