‘Someone must know something about attack’

Cllr Mulvenna, who visited the family after the attack, said she found the incident “sickening” and said she could not understand why anyone would want to do anything like it.

“This family was left distraught by what happened. It is just unbelievable to think that this has happened at all. I do not know what sort of mindset those who carried this out must have.

“This is a hard-working family who love living in Glenarm and have only the best to say about their neighbours in the village. Yet someone thought it was fine to do this.

“I would appeal to everyone to the whole community to co-operate with the police investigation into this. Someone must know something about who carried this out and I would urge them to come forward,” said Cllr Mulvenna.

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein MLA Oliver McMullan, added that the attack has left villagers “sickened” and that they have been cooperating with the police to bring to justice those responsible.

Mr McMullan, who said the family had already been subjected to a petrol bomb attack and having acid thrown at a car, added that the latest incident was “the straw that broke the camel’s back” for locals, who were “totally sickened by this attack”.

Police had assured him that the investigation was ongoing. “But people need to be reassured and I will be watching with great interest and the public are as well,” he added.

A PSNI spokesman said there had been no arrests up till Tuesday lunchtime, adding: “Police continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the attack, or who has any information, to contact police in Larne on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
