Something Specialis something else!

Something Special is an organisation for adults with learning difficulties and was founded by Denise White, 2013 Woman of the Year.

It provides an educational, creative and social environment that seeks to “bring out the best in each and every one of our students.”

Programmes are student led and include dance, music art, cookery, health and wellbeing as well as literacy/numeracy.

A further branch of Something Special is the social enterprise project ‘Something Special for You’.

The students produce cards, candles, jewellery and other craft items.

They have also developed customer service skills through serving tea and coffee and assisting customers with their purchases.

A very popular social night for the students is also operated on a Friday evening.

Something Special aims to promote student independence and develop skills that could lead to future job opportunities. A spokeserson said: “We are dependent on funding and are grateful to the people of Coleraine, for their generosity as we raised £275.60. This money will go towards providing our students with opportunities to improve the quality of their lives.”
