Somme anniversary parade appeal

ON Thursday 1st July 2010 the Hamilton Flute Band will lead a commemorative parade to the city's war memorial to mark the 94th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The parade will assemble at Horace Street at 7pm hours and move off at 7.20pm: a short wreath laying ceremony will take place at the war memorial as a tribute to all who made the supreme sacrifice on July 1, 1916.

After the ceremony a salute will be taken at Bishop Street and the parade will parade will march to St Columb's Cathedral for a service of remembrance incorporating dedication of a new set of drums and acknowledgement of the outgoing parade commander followed by the return to Horace Street for dismissal.

A spokesman said: "We would appeal for a good turn out of ex-service personnel to assist the band to commemorate this special event."
