Son charged with mother’s murder

A Portstewart man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother.

Margaret ‘Margo’ Evans, a popular Portstewart business woman was found beaten at her home in Knockancor Drive in Portstewart on 4 June.

Her son, Alun Kenny Evans (32) appeared before District Judge Liam McNally at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court in Coleraine this morning.

Evans was also charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

He was granted bail to reside at Knockbracken Healthcare Clinic in Belfast, and ordered to abide by a mental health order.

During the brief hearing, Evans wearing a grey shirt and black t-shirt, only spoke to confirm he understood the charges.
