Special school summer schemes not cut - Board

THE North Eastern Education and Library Board has issued a statement in an effort to clear up public confusion about the running of summer schemes at special schools in its area.

“Contrary to some generalised claims that education boards were cutting back on special school summer schemes, that has never been the case in the North East,” the statement says. “The Board’s schemes at special schools are operating just as they have in previous years. At no time did the Board consider cutting them back”.

The schemes will run from Monday July 19 to Friday July 30 from 10am to 3pm each day with primary age pupils catered for in the first week and secondary age students in the second week.

Board transport will be provided to collect pupils from home and bring them to and from the school as well as for a programme of educational trips for scheme members.

Training for staff employed on the schemes is being provided by the Health Trust.
