Specialist report due for Harding Street

Chief Executive, Sharon O’Connor explained: “Derry City Council responded to the needs of the local residents in the Marlborough area to assist with an intervention that was in the interest of health and safety.

“The appointed contractor will establish a regime of stabilisation work and Derry City Council will continue to monitor the situation through this specialist support.

“We would like to thank the residents for their patience at this stressful time and the many agencies and elected representatives who provided their support to make sure we could reach this necessary assurance work for residents.”

She said an assessment of the work plan for the wall at Marlborough Terrace was in its early stages and residents will be advised of progress.

“A further report is also expected within days for any stabilisation measures required for the Harding Street area. The health and safety advice remains. Residents in Marlborough Terrace and Street should refrain from entering their rear gardens or yards until further advised.

“They should not enter the back lane where the collapse took place. This advice is also made to residents in the immediate area of Harding Street and Abercorn Road where a section of wall collapsed earlier. Derry City Council will continue to liaise with all the necessary public agencies to provide advice and support to residents at this time,” she commented.
