A BALLYMENA man has been given seven penalty points for speeding.

The court heard that Foster was driving at 89mph while overtaking a car on the M2 motorway.

Charges of failing to produce his driving licence, failing to produce insurance and having no driving licence or insurance were all withdrawn.

A defence solicitor told the court that Foster realised that the speed had been excessive.

District Judge Robert Alcorn fined Foster 125 fine and imposed seven penalty points, due to his “appalling record of 24 road traffic offences.”

The defendant is to appeal the decision.
