Speeding to pick up fare

A MAN caught doing 51mph in a 30mph zone was fined £60 and had three penalty points endorsed on his licence.

Jason Henry Conly (25) from Mahon Court, Portadown, admitted the excess speed charge at Thursday's sitting of Craigavon Magistrates Court.

His solicitor told the court Conly was the father of two young children and is currently working as a motorway maintenance man.

At the time of the offence he was working as a taxi driver and was on his way to pick up a fare at 7am on Sunday, June 6.

The solicitor said the road was clear and when detected he had been offered a fixed penalty notice but this could not be done as he had a southern licence.
