Curtis Caulfield from Ballymoney is the best speller in Ulster!

Eason is delighted to announce that Curtis Caulfield age 11 from Ballymoney Model CIPS, will represent Ulster at the All-Ireland Eason Spelling Bee final after beating off competition at the Ulster Provincial Final.

Curtis competed against eight other spelling enthusiasts from Ulster and won the heat by correctly spelling the word ravioli.

The Eason Spelling Bee is part of an overall Eason literacy and reading initiative that aims to inspire children to develop a greater appreciation of words in a fun and educational way, and to encourage them to perfect their spelling and pronunciation skills.

Curtis will go on to take part in the Eason Spelling Bee All-Ireland Final to be held in RTÉ on June 19th. Four provincial winners will then battle it out for the 2015 Eason All-Ireland Spelling Bee Champion title and for the chance to win a library of books for their school.

Over 1,100 schools from the island of Ireland have entered the competition this year. The competition saw 32 children progress from their county finals to the provincial stage of the Eason Spelling Bee.

The Eason Spelling Bee, in association with RTÉ 2FM’s Tubridy, is now in its fifth year and is Ireland’s ultimate spelling contest, with all four provincial finals and the All-Ireland Final to be broadcast live on 2fm’s Tubridy.

RTÉ 2fm’s Ryan Tubridy said: “This is the fifth year we at 2fm’s Tubridy and travelled around the country to see the best and brightest young people challenge themselves to an incredibly high level.“
