Spencer Road remains closed

Utilities staff were today digging up a section of the road surface in a bid to identify and isolate the cause of the leak.

Meanwhile, it is understood that up to nine people have been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Two fire crews remain at the scene, but they have been joined by a senior fire officer.

A PSNI spokesman said the NIFRS were in charge of the scene.

Spencer Road remains closed to traffic from the junction at Craigavon Bridge to Fountain Hill and closed to pedestrians from the Iona Bar to Fountain Hill.
