Spiers accused bail changed

TWO men, who have been charged with affray in connection with the death of Portstewart man Trevor Spiers on December 13 last year, have had their bail conditions changed.

At North Antrim Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Paul McCormick (19) had his curfew changed to allow him to continue his employment at Coleraine Translink Station from 10pm to 6am.

However court heard that McCormick will only be allowed out at these times for work purposes.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, informed McCormick that if he is out for any other reasons then he will be in breach of his bail conditions.

McCormick also notified the court of a change of address to Edenmore Way, Ballymoney, which has been agreed by police. He will report to Ballymoney Police Station on the same dates.

Robert Peter Henderson (23), of Dunboe Gardens, Articlave, who is also charged with affray relating to the same incident, also applied to have his curfew conditions changed until 10pm. Both men will re-appear in court on March 1.

Last Monday the man accused of murdering Mr Spiers appeared at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court via videolink from HMP Maghaberry.

30-year-old Francis Paul McCormick of Cappaghmore Manor in Portstewart, who is also charged with affray and assaulting Michael Black occasioning actual bodily harm on the same date, was remanded in custody for a further four weeks until February 1 when he will appear in court again via videolink.
