Spike in City of Derry disruptions

A SPIKE in the number of flight disruptions was experienced at City of Derry Airport over Christmas.

A total of 22 flights were disrupted during December, affecting 1655 passengers. A Council report notes that all bar two were due to snow and ice that began on December 18.

"In the period from 18th December through until the end of December the North West and the North Coast were particularly badly affected," the report to the Council's airport committee states.

Statistics for the airport for the previous month of November 2009 showed that just four scheduled flights were diverted and two cancelled throughout that month.
