Spirits were high despite a dampstart to the Twelfth

Thoroughly wet weather failed to dampen the spirits of Orange Brethren and Sisters for this years Twelfth.

The most senior Orangeman in Scotland will be among those enjoying the festivities in the largest Twelfth parade in Co Londonderry.

Grand Master of the Orange Order in Scotland, Henry Dunbar, who was last week appointed as Imperial President of the Imperial Orange Council, joined more than 60 lodges taking part in the procession on the north coast, with large crowds expected to turn out to witness a day of colour and pageantry.

As is tradition, members of Coleraine District will be joined by brethren, sisters and juniors from Limavady, Londonderry, Macosquin and Lodges from north Donegal including Convoy and Newtowncunningham, with around 50 pipe, accordion, flute and brass bands.

In a break with recent times, when the religious service and speeches have been a somewhat protracted affair, the emphasis this year has changed.

According to Rt Wor Bro George Duddy, past County Grand Master and Worshipful District Master of Coleraine District LOL No 2, it will be a slimline Twelfth at Coleraine.

WDM Duddy said the decision had been made to contain the religious to 40 minutes to facilitate the return parade and accommodate brethren and Lodge members who had travelled by bus to attend.
