Splish, splash, splosh for dosh!

WHILE the rest of the population may be nursing their hangovers or making New Year resolutions, one group of musical friends will be dipping their toes into a charity fundraiser - quite literally!

For the group of 15 friends will be taking a dip in the sea at Portstewart Strand to raise money for two charities.

The icy idea was hatched by Donal and Elaine Macauley, Cathy McColgan and Karl Smith who decided to raise money for the local branches of SANDS and the Alzheimer’s Society.

A spokesman said: “We are a group of friends and family who all know each other through our involvement with Portrush Music Society.

“A few of us decided to do something a little different to raise money for the local branches of two charities which are very close to our hearts - SANDS which supports anyone affected by the death of a baby and the Alzheimer’s Society which leads the fight against dementia.

“When we were walking along the Strand we decided - why not?

“Once we came up with the idea it wasn’t long before some of our daft friends agreed to take part too and help raise even more money.”

The “willing” volunteers will be taking the plunge at 11am on New Year’s Day, dressed in a splendid array of fancy dress.

Among the ranks will be teachers, salespeople, dental nurses, rugby players, accountants and two people who may come in very handy - a paramedic and a lifeboat crew member!

If anyone would like to come along to the event, they will be made most welcome to attend and to donate to the two charities.
