Scarecrows Motorcycle Club hosted the hair-raising event on Friday evening at Kilcreggan Urban Farm on Elizabeth Avenue.

Members Derek, Mark and Chris each had their hair shorn into a mohawk style in a bid to raise funds for the purchase of two vintage motorcycles.

Formed in 2014, Scarecrows Motorcycle Club is made up of a number of residents from Kilcreggan Homes who have learning disabilities.

Over £200 was collected on Friday evening with support from fellow Carrick-based club, Quay Bikers.

“What members are hoping to do is purchase a pair of 1970s vintage Yamaha motorcycles,” said Hugh Murray, a member of the support staff at Kilcreggan.

“That model is very much in demand at the minute and the owner, Freddie has very kindly agreed to sell them to us at the same price he purchased them for originally instead of their current market value.”

The group will also be holding a ride out on Halloween this year.

The Ghost Ride will depart from Kilcreggan Urban Farm on Saturday October 31.

It will be the second time that the club has hosted the event, which last year aimed to raise money towards the construction of a brand new clubhouse.

“The clubhouse is still on the back burner but it would cost thousands of pounds,” said Hugh.

“At the moment the management at Kilcreggan have allowed us the use of a large shed on the premises for a workshop.”
