Sponsored walk for toys

Plans were announced in April 1984 for a sponsored walk with a difference.

A group of 25 youngsters, who were aged three and four, were set to complete a sponsored walk in May 1984.

They would walk round Marine Gardens in the town to raise funds to buy new toys for their playgroup.

To ensure that they would not get too exhausted, the children were only going to walk round the park a couple of times, with mums on hand if needed.

The idea for the walk came from two mums at the Shaftesbury Play Group, Mrs Patricia Duff and Mrs Frances Hanna.

They thought it would be an unusual way to raise funds to purchase new toys for the group.
