Spooky goings-on in Ballymoneyas town prepares for activities

During the mid-term Halloween break lots of spooky characters will be lurking in Ballymoney with chills and thrills and terror-ific Halloween themed activities and performances.

Council Development Chief, Bill Kennedy, revealed that the final touches were being put to a full programme of events organised over the “schools out” week at the end of October, (25th – 31st) with a key focus on family fun.

Inviting the local community and visitors to enter into the spirit Alderman Kennedy said: “The headline act, a colourful Carnival of terrible terrors and spooky teams, led by a stiltwalking wizard, arrives at the Diamond at 6 pm on 30th October, kick starting a spooktacular street party, with music, activities and spooky characters, facepainting and fire artists, providing a frightening lot of fun..

It would not be Halloween without fancy dress, so fashion spirit will be making its present felt, with spot prizes for best dressed.”

Other events include Halloween Art: Colouring competition for 3-6 year olds and recycle art 7-11 year olds, with a chance to win a hamper of goodies.

The art work will be displayed in the town during the festival week.

Storytelling & Films – The local library will host a storytelling and crafts event aimed at 4-8 year olds on 31st October (booking essential). Stories and films on myths and legends will be held in the Town Hall during the festival.

Treasure Trail - Pause for thought on the haunting trail in the town centre, follow the clues and receive a Halloween treat.

Ghostly Walk - Join a ghostly walk from the Diamond to the Old Graveyard and hear the story of the town’s ghost, George “Bloody” Hutchinson, a local magistrate infamous for his “on the spot” death sentences of the United Irishmen.

Competitions

A pumpkin carving competition and a shop window competition will dress the town and there will be music and giveaways while you shop.

Cafes Restaurants and Pubs tempt you with tasty treats and wicked lunch time meal deals.
