Spoon coated with drugs found in court cell

Vitor Hugo De Oliveira, whose address was given as Churchill Park, Portadown, admitted unlawful possession of Mephedrone on June 3 this year.

The defendant appeared in court by way of videolink from Maghaberry 
prison.

The court heard that on June 3 at 12.40pm police were called to the holding cells at Craigavon courthouse.

De Oliveira had a silver spoon which was coated with a white substance wrapped in a plastic glove.

He confirmed to police it was Mephedrone.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had been caught in possession of a class C drug and 
when he appeared in court on June 3 he knew he was going into custody.

He explained that his client had a long standing 
heroin addiction and was going through a 
programme.

The solicitor added that on the morning of the court he had bought Tramadol and ‘taken a hit’ before going into custody.

He was sentenced to five months in custody and was due to be released on November 20.

De Oliveira was given two months in custody for possession of Mephedrone to run concurrently with the sentence he was presently serving.
