Sport Relief success in the park

LURGAN Park was transformed into a hive of activity last Sunday as budding athletes from across the borough and beyond donned their running gear to take part in the Sport Relief Mile 2010.

Almost 500 seasoned runners and novices alike with big hearts and healthy lungs ran either one, three or six-miles to raise money for Sport Relief, the high profile charity event organised by Comic Relief which uses everything that’s good about sport to change lives for the better.

All the money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.

Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Mrs Meta Crozier, started the race and commented: “This is the second time Lurgan Park has hosted this exciting event and I am absolutely delighted to see so many people, both young and old, from across the borough and beyond taking part, getting sponsored and raising money for this very worthy cause.”

Following the race, there was balloon modelling, facing painting and disco dancing for all the little ones to enjoy.
