Sporting successes

A NUMBER of sporting successes were toasted at council on Monday night.

Mayor of Craigavon Alan Carson congratulated Waringstown Cricket Club on their Senior Challenge Cup win as did Councillors Carla Lockhart and Jo-Anne Dobson.

Councillor Lockhart said: “This win showcases the great sporting talent we have in this borough.”

Sinn Fein’s Tommy O’Connor toasted the success of the Armagh Women’s Minor Football Team who won the Armagh Minor Ladies Final on Monday.

Sinn Fein Councillor Johnny McGibbon said it was very refreshing to hear of successes of a sporting nature in the borough.

He mentioned Ciaran Haughian who has been selected for the Irish Junior Angling Team. Both Ciaran’s brothers have represented Ireland and Ulster in Boxing.

He proposed council send a letter to Ciaran in recognition of his achievement.

With regards to sporting achievements UUP Alderman Meta Crozier said the sports development within Craigavon Council is superb.

Deputy Mayor George Savage said it was a great weekend for sport across the borough.
