Sports students raise vital funds for charity

SPORTS Studies students from South Eastern Regional College’s Lisburn Campus recently hosted a volleyball competition in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

As part of their studies the level three students got the opportunity to organise their own sporting event.

Eight teams competed for the title and trophy, which was kindly sponsored by local sports shop CP Trophies and Engraving.

Commenting on the evening Ronan McAnespy, SERC Sports lecturer explained: “Over the past two months the students have been planning the event during practical and theory lessons. The students used their module ‘Planning and Running a Sports Event’ as an opportunity to showcase the excellent facilities that the College has to offer.

“The organising of such an important event also helps build confidence within the students and gives them practical experience for future sporting events they may have to organise. As their lecturer I was very proud of their professionalism and the hard work they put into making the event so successful. The event was a great success, raising over £250 for their chosen charity, so well done to all concerned.”
