They were driving with excess alcohol on December 18 last year, driving while disqualified, not having insurance and taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner.

The court heard that at 3.40am Byrne drove to the service window at McDonald’s in Meadow Lane, Portadown.

Staff saw him take a drink from a tin of Heineken while driving in and it was placed in the cup holder. There was also another beer in the side of the door.

When police spoke to him Byrne refused to take a preliminary test but an evidential test at the police station gave a reading of 67.

It transpired he was a disqualified driver and he had taken the car, which belonged to his mother, without her consent. He was not covered by insurance.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, adjourned sentencing until February 17.
