Spring is sprung – get creative at Flowerfield Arts Centre

IF YOU’D like to use the new spring weather to flex your creative muscles, Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart is the place to go.

Some of these classes fill up really quickly, so be sure to get your name down as soon as you can. You can call at reception at Flowerfield any time and pay for a place on any of the classes. The centre also accepts credit card payments and bookings by phone on (028) 7083 1400.

Most of the classes get underway in the week commencing April 23 and run for six weeks.

On Mondays, there’s a choice of Intermediate Warm Glass, from 3-5pm with tutor Natasha Duddy, or the later Warm Glass class, aimed at Beginners and Improvers – those with a little experience in the field, from 6.30pm to 9pm.

Floristry tutor Elaine Taylor also offers an enjoyable and relaxed class from 7pm to 9pm on Mondays.

On Tuesday mornings, ceramics tutor Adam Frew offers a class in pottery from 10am to 12.30pm, while in the evening, painting tutor Keith Stynes will offer a class in Oils and Acrylics, with a special focus on portraiture, from 7pm to 9pm.

The centre is offering two classes in Intermediate Digital Photography with experienced tutor Steve Lowry, one on Tuesday afternoons from 2-4pm, and another from 7-9pm on Tuesdays. Both of these classes get under way on May 1st.

And the auditorium plays host to a Yoga class with tutor Maggie Crawford, between 7.30pm and 9pm on Tuesday evenings.

Popular tutor Alison Wilson offers a pair of Watercolour classes, one on Wednesdays from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, and another on Friday mornings from 2pm to 4pm on Fridays.

There’s another evening class in Sculptural Ceramics with tutor Adam Frew on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm, and on Thursday evening, artist Derek McAfee offers a class in The Art of Drawing, from 7-9pm. Author and tutor Bernie McGill offers a class in Creative Writing from 7-9pm.

Fridays are also busy at Flowerfield, with two digital photography-related classes on offer from tutor Kathy Stewart – Getting Started in Digital Photography runs from 11.15am to 1.15pm, and Kathy also offers a 2-4pm class on Fridays offering An Introduction to Digital Photo Editing.

Penny Ramalho’s popular Friday Art Club runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Fridays, offering tuition and guidance in a number of media.
