The government, as part of its overseas aid commitment, will now match this total pound for pound.

The children have been learning about global issues in class and in particular this year, the impact of climate change on the Developing World. In Y7 the children have also been learning about the Great Irish Famine in Ireland.

During Lent the children fundraised for Trócaire. There was a cake sale (Y4), Green Day for St. Patrick’s Day and this year, for the first time, Odd Clothes Day. All of the initiatives were organised and managed by the children themselves including counting, bagging and banking the money.

The school also received generous donations from parents and grandparents as well as family Trócaire boxes. Mr Conlon, the school’s Principal, said: “This is a very important part of our pupils’ education. We want the children to think about others, learn about their lives and bring about change. This is our faith in action and it’s a special part of the ethos of this school. We really value the support of our whole school community and our partners in Trócaire.” Reece, Conor, Annabella and Khira presented a cheque to Ciaran O’Loan, Trocaire Volunteer on Wednesday.
