St Killian’s extension is confirmed

St Killian’s College Garron Tower has received confirmation from the Department of Education that its bid from the School Enhancement Programme (SEP) has been successful in reaching the final stage of approval.

The college will receive a significant investment in terms of a full size (440m2) sports hall, music suite, an extension to the technology and design suite and the development of an 1800m2 play area.

It confirms St Killian’s as a central school within the Catholic family of schools in the Glens and East Antrim.

Principal Jonny Brady said: “This is another great news story for the college, which is continuing to develop both in reputation and in student numbers. Obviously, this investment echoes this growth.

“There is no doubt that the additional investment will make the college the most modern school in the area, as well as the most stylish and fit-for-purpose school in the area. The development programme will ensure we provide our young people with the best possible educational facilities and experience within the budget available.”

He added: “This investment in the College will ensure that the already high quality of learning and teaching, which was recognised and endorsed by the ETI in their recent report, will be further enhanced, ensuring that the students who attend St Killian’s will continue to receive a top class education.”

The extension was one of 40 school build projects across northern Ireland which have been forwarded by Education Minister John O’Dowd to design stage and ready for planning.
