St Killian’s pupils ‘rightly proud’ of A Level results

A total of 84 per cent of students achieved A*-C in their examination results with 100 per cent achieving at least two good A Level passes. The college saw the percentage of A*/A grades increased to 35 per cent, with 14 per cent achieving straight As or better.

New subjects such as health and social care, engineering, construction, applied business studies, Level 3 ICT and sport studies, have produced significant and very positive outcomes, opening up many career paths for these students.

In addition, college Principal Jonny Brady noted significant results achieved in both the STEM and arts areas.

He said: “This highlights the success the college has in delivering a broad range of educational pathways to develop the interests and talents of all our students, providing them with the academic results and key life skills to confidently contribute to our society and growing economy.

“With university places in high demand we are pleased that with the help, advice and guidance of the college’s career department, the vast majority of our students have gained entry to their first choice courses.”

Once again there was a rise in the number of students who achieved the top grades. Fionntan Callan deserves a special mention as the school’s top achiever with an outstanding four A*s. Fionntan will be going to Queen’s University Belfast in September to study physics.

Other top achievers include Ryan Craig (A*A*A*), Aidan McCurry (A*A*A), Aimee McKay (AAA), Anna McKay (A*AA). Niamh McKendry and Meghan O’Loughlin both achieved A*AB, while Clodagh McKillop and Sean Ritson achieved AAB.

There was further success in vocational subjects, with top achievers Conan Harvey and Pascal McManus both achieving a distinction star in engineering and a distinction in double award construction, equivalent to A*AA.

Mr Brady added: “This year the college also would highlight the power of the twins, with Andrea and Michaela Mulvenna each achieving A*A A in maths, chemistry and biology while the McKillop twins, Ronan and Cathal, not to be outdone, achieving a distinction and a double award distinction in engineering and construction.

Meanwhile, Eimhear Carey hit the jackpot with ABB which has ensured her place in Deloitte’s Bright Start programme. As a result of she will complete her degree in business with computing at the Ulster University, receive a salary throughout her studies with an offer of full time employment on the completion of her course.

Mr Brady was delighted at the success of the students across a range of subjects and stated: “It is gratifying to see so many of our young people achieve and exceed their expectations and for that the students and teachers in the college deserve great credit.

“These excellent results are down to the hard work, commitment and dedication of our students and staff and they should be rightly proud. The college, once again, has demonstrated its consistency in delivering high quality learning and teaching.”
