St Mary’s Church Ballinderry has closed

Last month, David Gantley, DipBS MRICS (Diocesan Property Administrator) carried out a survey of parish property.

He noted that St. Patrick’s Aghagallon and St. Mary’s, Ballinderry were in need of extensive remedial work and refurbishment.

A Fire Risk Assessment was carried out in 2013, which highlighted serious issues that were not addressed.

Mr Gantley concluded that the NIE Electrical Supply and the wiring inside St. Mary’s was of such poorcondition that the church is deemed to be extremely unsafe.

St. Mary’s was forced to close until full assessments are received from a NICEIC registered Electrical Contractor and a Chartered Building Surveyor.

The parish website stated, “We understand how emotive this decision is and will strive to have all the assessments completed as soon as possible.”
