St Mungos back in play at Galbally fundraiser in baby Eoin’s name

A Rock man who plans to take on Mt Kilimanjaro this year for the charity that helped his 10-month-old son in his final days, is putting on a play to raise funds for his climb.

Eamonn Cush lost his baby son Eoin following an operation to close a hole in his heart, and has planned a special showing of the St Mungos Luganulk play in aid of Helping Hand at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

This follows the success of his recent Royal Rumble boxing event, about which the father-of-three said: “I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and support.”

The up-coming comedy and music night in Galbally is next in a series of events Eamonn said he hopes to put in the run up to the big climb.

Eamonn told the Mail: “The comedy, which was written by Conor Grimes and Alan McKee, tells the story of how St Mungos Luganulk GAC - the worst Gaelic football team in history - manage to somehow reach the All Ireland Final in Croke Park.

“Conor and Alan have worked on a number of major projects including the highly acclaimed ‘The History of the Troubles According to My Da’ [and] of course the 2003 ‘Datsun Donaghy’ DVD celebrating Tyrone’s journey to their first All Ireland win.”

The play, which will be shown in Galbally Community Centre on Saturday, January 24 at 8pm, will be followed by a set from traditional folk band The Flyin’ Fiddle.

“They use the Fiddle, Bodhrán, Whistles, Guitar and Bass along with vocals and harmonies to create an energetic, foot stomping set blending originals and classic folk with fast paced - some might even say Flyin’ instrumentals and covers of songs from all backgrounds,” Eamonn said.

“From their first meeting at a session in Duffs Bar Ardboe the band have played on stages which have been graced by artists such as Horslips, Bagatelle, Christy Moore and Cara Dillon - always a talking point for any aspiring musician.”

Tickets for the night’s entertainment are £12.50 and are available to buy from Kingsbridge 24 Hour Filling Station Cookstown - between Asda and Otter lodge, Stewarts Music Shop Dungannon, Grimes XL Stop and Shop Donaghmore, Tallys Shop Galbally and Galbally Community Centre, but are also available at the door on the night.

Doors open at 7pm and the Bar will be open before and after play, which starts at 8pm.
