St. Patrick is celebrated at Edmund Rice College

ST. PATRICK'S Day festivities began last Thursday at Edmund Rice College with a celebration of Irish culture in the most recent of the Inclusion and Diversity nights to be held at the Hightown Road school.

The cultural nights, organised by Mary Ross and Marie McGrath, have been running in the school for the last number of years and have included a 'Filipino Cultural Night' and 'Polish Cultural Night' in which the cultures of the respective countries have been celebrated through an appreciation of music, dance and food.

Last Thursday, guests enjoyed music from the Glengormley School of Traditional Music, Irish Dancing with Arlene Trainor, Orla O'Connor and Sarah Burns, and food and Irish coffees provided by the school’s Home Economics department.

The evening was rounded off with a Cil Mr where everyone took part in various Irish cil dances such as the Waves of Tory.

The next Inclusion and Diversity night will be the Filipino Night again which will take place over the next couple of months, and be advertised in local papers and parish bulletins.
